A Perfect Day on the Jersey Cape
One Day. Seven Experiences. One Unforgettable Shore.
Getting Here: 1.5 hours from Philadelphia, 3.5 hours from NYC via Garden State Parkway.
Transportation: Most groups rent cars for wineries and exploring. Downtown Cape May is walkable; bike rentals available.
Your children will never forget your week at the shore…
7:00 AM: Higbee Beach Start your morning the way the locals do quietly, and with intention. Head to Higbee Beach at dawn, binoculars in hand, and walk the easy nature trails as the bay comes alive. The birdsong alone is worth the early alarm. Breathe in the salt air, comb the shoreline for treasures, and watch the Delaware Bay shimmer in the morning light before the rest of the world wakes up.
9:30 AM: Wild Roots Provisions Work up an appetite on those trails? Stop into Wild Roots Provisions at 316 Beach Avenue in Cape May for a made-to-order breakfast sandwich, fresh-brewed coffee, and a browse through their curated pantry finds. Grab something to go, you've got a beach day
ahead.
10:30 AM: Cape May City Beach Tag up and head to the sand. Cape May City's Atlantic beaches are classic Jersey Shore at their finest lifeguarded, clean,
beautifully maintained, and framed by Victorian architecture that makes the whole scene feel like a postcard. Swim, sunbathe, bodyboard, or simply plant your umbrella and read. This is what summer feels like.
Flocks of gulls you will miss hearing when you leave Cape May.
1:00 PM: Visit Jawbone Gallery and shake off the sand and step into something unexpected. Just a short stroll from the beach, Jawbone Gallery at 31 Perry Street in Carpenter's Square Mall is showcasing some of the most dynamic fine art in the region, local legends alongside world-class talent. It's a dose of culture that makes the afternoon feel richer.
2:30 PM: Stone Harbor Make the short drive up to Stone Harbor for the afternoon. Stroll 96th Street's charming boutiques and grab an ice cream, then stop by the Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary, the only municipally sponsored heronry in the United States, before taking a slow walk on one of the Shore's most peaceful and pristine beaches. This is Cape May County at its most quiet and beautiful.
An absolute must for a fun beachy afternoon with amazing food and drinks.
5:00 PM: Mad Viking Dock Bar and Grill Pull up a chair, or pull up a boat, at Mad Viking Dock Bar and Grill at Snug Harbor Marina on the Cape May Harbor. Order a Fresh Squeezed Orange Crush, watch the boats drift in, and dig into straight-off- the-boat seafood paired with fresh herbs and vegetables from Horseshoe Crab Farm. If you time it right, there's live music on the dock. SKOL!
7:30 PM: Villas Bayside Beach End the day the way Cape May County deserves to be ended. Drive out to the Villas Bayside Beach, kick off your shoes, and watch the sun melt into the Delaware Bay in a blaze of pink and gold. No tags, no crowds, no agenda, just one of the most spectacular sunsets on the entire East Coast.
